PILATES
WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a type of training that integrates the core into all motions of the body. The core is the foundation of movement through sitting. Pilates uses a variety of equipment for the integration of the whole body during movement. Examples that you will see in my studio is a reformer, springboards, mats and a variety of props to complement our movement. Pilates is based of fundamental movement principles that you will find below. This method of working out is using gravity and resistance for low impact toning and conditioning of the body.
CAN ANYONE DO PILATES?
Yes, Pilates is for men, women, children, including the aging population. There are many variations that we can use through the pilates exercise repertoire in order to manage any pre-existing conditions or prevent further deterioration of conditions. One common concern is Osteoperosis/Osteopenia as we start aging, and Pilates is very beneficial due to the weight bearing exercises that improve bone building. Pilates also activates the inner core unit to aid in proper postures as we age during standing, sitting and walking. Pilates can be used for anyone from high level athlete to weekend warrior to employees at desk to kids in sport.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO PILATES?
Pilates 2-3 times per week is recommended, and is the most effective for clients with their practice of pilates. This frequency depends as well on what other activities you complete outside of Pilates such as walking, biking, water aerobics, running, weight lifting. We can discuss based off of your individual goals and needs.
